Public health advocates are increasingly interested in the transportation sector. To address this emerging issue, the Center for Environmental Excellence by AASHTO held a Transportation and Public Health Peer Exchange in December 2014. Peer exchange, participants identified the fundamental lack of understanding between public health and transportation communities as a barrier to communications and understanding. Research is needed to produce a guidebook for transportation professionals that will facilitate successful communication and cross-sector partnerships between transportation and public health communities.
Research Objective:
The purpose of this study is to produce a user-friendly guidebook for state and local transportation professionals, identifying the challenges and best practices for successful communication and collaboration between transportation and public health professionals.
